I was about to go to bed, and the fire alarm in the hall started to go off. It beeps this insanely loud pulse that went on for like 30 minutes. Sooo, since it wasn’t stopping, I called the management and they asked me to find a reset button on the machine. I searched the machine, and there are all of these little levers, and I am not sure what they do because they are all written in technical jargon. Anyway, they kept asking me to find a reset button while the security comes to fix the situation, so I was like, "look, there is a lever that says ‘temporarily suspend reverberation’ should I push it?" And of course, it was all written in Japanese, so he goes yeah, just try and push that. Sure enough, the unbearably loud beeping nightmare stopped. I went back inside, and looked up a Chinese character I didn’t know, and I found out that the second half, the part that I didn’t know, actually meant "reset", but the landlord didn’t even know that. So, I looked up how to pronounce it on the internet, and it said "Fukkyuu". Laughter ensued. So, now if anyone asks you how to say "reset" in old-school Japanese, you can just tell them "Fukkyuu".

Out shooting with Tacoma Photo Gang we followed a back alley lined with train tracks and a small stream. This fire alarm hung on the backside of one of the building. It first struck my eye because of its rich blue color, but held it because of its old timey look. The color nearly matches that of the bright sky above us. This part of downtown still retains much of its flavor from a time long gone and this fixture does not at all look out of place.
